I am interested in using photography to capture moments that, once
stopped in time and framed, allow other levels of perception. Some of
my photographs are set up in advance, but most are images captured as I
go through my daily life — “ordinary” moments. The camera can
preserve an instant unlike any other medium. It is the “decisive
moment” of this medium that I find most profound.

I like to capture atypical relationships of people to their
surroundings: uncommon patterns during common moments. My attention
is usually on the edges of the frame, in the shadows, or in motion. I
am often surprised by what I see, and I enjoy the new perspective
this brings me.

When working with black and white 35mm film, I develop the film and
print my own photographs. When shooting digitally, I minimize
manipulation of the image to transforming it to grayscale, adjusting
for contrast and “dodging and burning”. I like the simplicity of

black
and white.
